The Madeleine Fund has raised well over £1,000,000 and some estimate that the company has raised £2,000,000. The money initially seemed to be going nowhere as the total kept rising with none of it being spent. Soon after the McCanns were made suspects in the disappearance of their daughter, they embarked on a spending campaign which seemed to be the best way to waste money as fast as it was earned. Enter Metodo 3 - the Spanish private detective agency with no track record in finding missing children. Instead of providing a freephone number for the public to call with information, Madeleine's Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned Limited provided a premium rate telephone number, thus earning more money for the company with each possible lead in the search for Madeleine. No wonder that Metodo 3 were moving in to new plush offices in Barcelona in December after earning a reputed £50,000 per month for six months.
Have Metodo 3 done anything to find Madeleine? Well, considering that the police are already looking for Madeleine and the McCanns have failed to answer many of the PJ's questions, it is unclear how Metodo 3 could have any more success than official agencies. On the face of it, Metodo 3 are the most unlikely company one would recruit to find a missing person. Metodo 3 boss Francisco Marco claimed he'd reunite Madeleine with her family by Christmas. Clearly he didn't mean Christmas 2007!
Did everyone who donated to the fund realise they would be contributing to the McCann family living expenses while the two doctors earn in the region of £120,000 per annum?
